Virtual Conference - Advancing Behavior Support: From Prevention to Treatment

This conference is sponsored by the WNY Regional Center for Autism Spectrum Disorders and The Summit Center. It is tailored to teachers, therapists, and other helping professionals. The conference is divided into Session 1 (morning) and Session 2 (afternoon). You can choose to attend one or both sessions. CEUs will be awarded separately based on attendance at each session. The morning session may be suitable for parents. If you want to attend both Session 1 and Session 2 you will need log in twice. The morning session provides three practical, evidence-based presentations for managing challenging behaviors in children with autism and related disabilities. Participants will explore proactive strategies for building supportive classroom environments, fostering positive student engagement, and reducing barriers to learning. Session 1: 1. Dr. Jason Robinson - Proactive Strategies for Preventing and Managing Problem Behaviors. 2. Dr. Stephanie H. Jones - The Constructional Approach to Challenging Behaviors. 3. Dr. Jeffrey H. Tiger - Teaching Communication Skills: Advances in Functional Communication Training Session 2 is an advanced topic two-hour presentation by Dr. Sean Smith, Ph.D. Dr. Smith will discuss the challenges of translating research into practice to treat severe behavior disorders. It will include a discussion of multiple ways to assess severe behavior and identify specific treatment procedures based on idiosyncratic student and environmental variables.
